From ancient times different stories and legends are circulating trying the explain the origin and meaning of the day. From pagans to christians all have different meaning. Did you know that one of the stories comes from Roman festival called Lupercalia? Apparently this festival used to celebrate the coming of the spring and included fertility rites and the pairing off of women with men by lottery, nothing romantic about that, right? There are other stories related with christian martyrs which are all very far from the commercialized “happy-romantic” version of Valentines Day today. Which one is our own version? The true is we create our own reality base on our perspective. Our personal reality is made up of how we think, feel and act. Our thoughts and feelings are deeply rooted in past experiences. I just remember Valentine’s Day movie where Jessica Biel (Kara) is organizing her annual “I Hate Valentine’s Day” party which was finally full of disappointed women. There are many stories out there but you have the power to create your own and that’s the one that truly matters. Media can force you to think that you need to have a romantic partner by your side to celebrate and you might believe that if you are alone you are a failure, that nobody loves you. From another point of view, you can take the opportunity to enjoy time and celebrate with your friends and family who support you and are there for you in good and bad situations. And if you are by yourself and don’t have anyone by your side, maybe is time to go out and connect with people creating new relationships. But the truth is everyone can place its own spin to it creating your own reality. We cannot wait for someone to come and make us happy or give us love. You have to generate happiness from the inside and love yourself first. Everything comes back to self-love, self-recognition, self-awareness and self-affirmation. Create your own reality the one that makes you happy and not the one society is trying to sale you. Stay free-minded and away from fixed patterns or beliefs.
